Artistic education
Born in Milan in 1968, Gianluca Capuano graduated from the Milan Conservatory in Organ, Composition and Orchestra conduction. He specialised in early music through the experimental postgraduate Course in Choir conduction and courses at the Milan Scuola Civica. As well as music, Gianluca Capuano completed classical studies, graduating with honours in Theoretical Philosophy at the Università Statale in Milan.

 

Artistic career
He has many commitments as conductor, organist and continuist all over Europe and in the USA, Russia and Japan. He is organist at the Basilica of San Simpliciano in Milan ( an Ahrend organ).

 

Making constant reference to the most up-to-date musicology, he is committed to a conscientious and critical approach to European Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces. He participates as conductor at some of the most important European seasons of early music and in 2003 released a CD for the music magazine Amadeus dedicated to Giacomo Carissimi. He is also Musical Director of the Associazione Carissimi–Archivio Manusardi in Milan.

 

In 2005 he founded the new label, and vocal and instrumental ensemble, «Il Canto di Orfeo».

 

Since 2009 Gianluca Capuano is Artistic Director of Milano Classica, Chamber Orchestra.
