Artistic Education
Born 1969 in Graz, Austria. Diploma in jazz piano at the university of music and dramatic arts in Graz. Postgraduate diploma in jazz composition (Graham Collier) at the Royal Academy of Music in London (1997-98)
Artistic Career
Establishment of several ensembles: Stefan Heckel Group, Blaubauer, Der Pannonische Wahnsinn, Dawn Chorus and the Vienna Improvised Music Nights.
Cooperation with: Angela Tröndle’s Mosaik, Julian Argüelles, Pete Flood, Christian Weber, John Edwards, Sainkho Namtchylak, Frank Gratkowski, Gerald Preinfalk, Christoph Pepe Auer, Irina Karamarkovic, Erich Oskar Hütter, Nenad Vasilic Balkan Band, and many more.
Performances at: Festival of Central European Culture, Austrian Soundcheck, Jazzwerkstatt Wien + Graz, Sounding Jerusalem, Musik zum Anfassen, Musik Aktuell Niederösterreich, Pablo Casals Festival, Boswiler Sommer, Regionale Steiermark.

Teacher at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz (since 2000). Teaching at British institutions (Berkshire Young Musician’s Trust, Keble Boy School, Barnet Music Services) and in Austria (Vienna Music Institute).
