Artistic education
He studied with Axel Papenberg, Rudolf Kehrer, Heinz Medjimorec and Avo Kouyoumdjian at the Universiy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In 2000 he made his Piano Masters degree with a performance of the Goldberg variations and the maximum of points. He acquired additional artistic input from Lazar Berman, Alexander Longquich and Louis Lortie at the Accademia Pianistica in Imola, Italy as well as from Oleg Maisenberg, Murray Perahia and Dimitri Bashkirow by the attendance of masterclasses.

Artistic career
As one of the most interesting pianists of the young Austrian piano generation, Christopher Hinterhuber has given solo recital and chamber music performances in concert halls such as the Wiener Konzerthaus and Musikverein, the Philharmonie Gasteig in Munich, the Brucknerhaus in Linz, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Musikhalle Hamburg, the Gewandhaus Leipzig and the Casals Hall in Tokyo and as "Rising Star" 2002/3 in the international series at the Carnegie Hall, New York, Athens Concert Hall, Palais des Beaux Arts de Bruxelles, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall, London Konserthus Stockholm; Festspielhaus Baden-Baden; Symphony Hall Birmingham; Musikverein Wien, Mozarteum Salzburg and the Philharmonie in Cologne.
His debut concert with orchestra (Rachmaninow 2nd Concerto) at the Musikverein in Vienna took place under the baton of Yakov Kreizberg in March 1999. He has received numerous invitations to prestigous festivals such as the Ruhr Piano Festival, the Carinthian Summer in Ossiach, the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg, the Klangbogen Festival in Vienna, the Mozart Festival in Augsburg or the International Chamber Music Festival in Kyoto.
Christopher Hinterhuber has appeared as a soloist with with conducters as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Peter Oundjian, Bruno Weil, Howard Griffiths and Dennis Russel-Davies among others performing with with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, the Vienna and Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra Philharmonique de Luxembourg , the MDR Orchestra Leipzig, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Slovenian Philharmonic, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the New Arts Philharmonia Orchestra and others.

Recordings

He has made several CD Recordings, the recordings of keyboard works by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (2004) and Piano Concertos by Ferdinand Ries with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (2005) on NAXOS were highly acclaimed by international critics. Since winter 2005 he is teaching piano at the University for Music and performing Arts in Vienna.
