Artistic education
After completing her studies with Thomas Füri at the Music Academy in Basel, Switzerland, she studied with Robert Mann and Ida Kavafian at the famous Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, USA. She there received her Artist Diploma in 2000 and then did her postgraduate studies as a student of the late Yfrah Neaman at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London before moving back to Switzerland. She finished her studies in Zurich with Nora Chastain.
Artistic career
Her career so far took her to the Festivals of Ravinia, New Mexico (USA), Open Chamber Music Prussia Cove, Music at Plush (England), Ludwigsburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany), Davos, Menuhin Festival Gstaad, Ittingen, Lucerne and Zürich (Orpheum Soloists). She has been playing as soloist with various orchestras such as the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Basel Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Böhmische Kammerphilharmonie, St. George Strings, Göttinger Symphony Orchestra etc. and has appeared under the baton of conductors including Howard Griffiths, Dennis Russel Davies, Christoph Mueller.
She was invited to tour the U.S, Japan, India and many countries in Europe, and performed in prestigious places such as Wigmore Hall, Salamanca Hall Gifu, Mozarteum Salzburg and the Wiener Konzerthaus.
After playing for several years as first violinist in the Merel String Quartet, she now is the violinist of the Tecchler Trio which she co-founded in 2003.
She has perfomed with renowned artists such as Christian Altenburger, Atar Arad, Reto Bieri, James Boyd, Adrian Brendel, Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Sol Gabetta, Paul Gulda, Lawrence Power, Christoph Richter, Rafael Rosenfeld, Antoine Tamestit, Louise Williams, among many others.
The Zuger Kantonalbank enables her to play on a Balestrieri Violin from 1760.
Prices and competitions
1st Prize Winner of the 8th International Mozart Competition in Salzburg 2002. With the Tecchler Trio she won the German Music Competition 2004, the prestigious „Prix Crédit Suisse Jeunes Solistes“ 2004 and the Migros Chamber Music Competition 2005 (see also www.tecchlertrio.com).
2nd Prize Winner of the George Prêtre Competition in Douai, France, 2001. She has received numerous other awards and scholarships such as the Award for the Youth of Zug, twice the Prize of the Kiefer Hablitzel Foundation as well as twice the Migros Award.
Recordings
Esther Hoppe is to be heard on recordings with the Tecchler Trio (Ars Musici) as well as on a CD with works by Saint-Saens (Virgin Classics, with Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Frank Braley, Michel Dalberto, Emmanuel Pahud, Paul Meyer etc.)
