Artistic education
Studies under Jan Polasek at the Richard-Strauss Academy in Munich, under Martin Ostertag at the University in Karlsruhe, Germany. Soloist degree at the Academy for music Basel, Switzerland, under Heinrich Schiff.

Artistic career
At the age of 23 he was already first solo cellist of the symphony orchestra “Südwestfunk” under the conductor Michael Gielen. 1988 teacher of a celloclass at the music academy Basel, Switzerland, as the successor for Boris Pergamenschikow. As an artist he collaborated with Ulf Hölscher, Heinrich Schiff and Christian Tetzlaff, as well as the “Baseler Sinfonieorchester”, the “Tonhalleorchester Zürich”, the “Sinfonieorchester des Südwestrundfunks”, the “Deutschen Kammerphilharmonie” and many others. Premiers of works of Gielen, Henze, Rihm, Krenek, Trümpy.

Teaching activity
Since 2003 he is university professor for cello at the University in Vienna.
