Artistic education
Valery Oistrach continues the family tradition of great violinists in the third generation.
He studied at the famous Central Music School in Moscow and also he received intensive training from his grandfather, David Oistrach. During the following years he attended the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow, his native city. He completed his musical education with the unique and world-famous Professor Zakhar Bron, who, interestingly enough, had been taught by Valery's father, Igor Oistrach, at the Moscow Conservatory.

Artistic career
His concerts have taken him to former USSR, America, Canada, Australia, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, etc.

He performs both as violin and viola soloist with the leading orchestras of the world. Valery's profound understanding and mastery of the violin repertoire, his enrapturing tone, which frequently echoes the unforgettable David, have met with overwhelmingly positive appraisal from critics and audiences. Valery Oistrach is a perfect chamber musician. His competence never fails to enrich the performances of famous ensembles all over the world, as is the case when he plays with exceptional musicians like Yehudi Menuhin, Jörg Demus or the excellent Amadeus String Quartet.

He has also won important international competitions und worked with the leading orchestras of the world, such as

  • the Philharmonic Orchestras of Berlin, London, Moscow and Leningrad
  • the National Scottish Orchestra
  • the Orchestre Colonne de Paris
  • the Orchestra Santa Cecilia di Roma
  • the Lipsia Gewandhaus Orchestra
  • the Toronto and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and recently
  • the Sydney Symphony Orchestra,

which were conducted by such outstanding maestros as Kurt Masur, Tibor Varga, Gennady Rozdestvensky, Muhai Tang, Gyorgy Lehel, Saulius Sondetzkis and Vladimir Fedoseev.

Valery Oistrach is mentor and soloist of the Oistrach Philharmonic Orchestra Brussels.

Teaching activities
As well as being extremely busy giving concerts, Valery Oistrach is a professor at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels and at the International Summer Academy of Belgium. He conducts annual master classes in Germany, Austria, Italy, Turkey and Japan. Moreover, since 1999 Valery Oistrach has been Visiting Professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
