Castle Kaiserau

To the south of Admont at a height of some 1 100 metres above sea level lies a mountain plateau. The charming landscape of the Kaiserau is situated near the Gesäuse National Park and is part of the Reichenstein Group, whose most prominent peak is the pyramid of the 2 196 m high Admont Kalbling. The construction of the Oberst-Klinke Hut in 1941, which can be reached from the Kaiserau via a toll road, began the opening up of this area. Today in winter and summer alike the Kaiserau is treasured as an Alpine idyll by those looking for recreation or sport.

Kaiserau Lodge

As early as the 11 th century there was a simple farm on the high-lying plateau. The name Kaiserau comes from “Käser-Au“ since cheese (Käse) was produced in this area several hundred years ago. The “most beautiful Styrian mountain meadow” was used early on by Admont Monastery and its guests for recreation. In 1778 the Admont Benedictine monks built a splendid summer lodge where crowned heads among the hunting guests stayed several times. In 1942 the lodge burned down to its foundations. It was later rebuilt more simply and today overnight visitors can regain their strength in the quiet surroundings.

Their special construction gives the adapted lodge buildings an incomparable atmosphere. It lies roughly 100 metres away from the lift station and can be booked for full or half board. Six comfortable appartments are housed in the South wing of the lodge. These can sleep 4 to 5 persons and are fully equipped with living-room kitchen, WC, bath and bedrooms. In addition to the holiday dwellings the lodge has a separate area for the accommodation of groups.
