Some six kilometres West of Admont on the left bank of the Enns is the lone wooded mountain, which at its highest point, 130 metres above the valley, bears the parish and pilgrimage church of Frauenberg, visible from afar.

The mountain itself, which in the course of time has become Frauen-Berg (mountain of Our Lady) because of the Church to the Virgin, was formerly just called “Kulm” (round-topped mountain). This suggests that in the Middle Ages (or perhaps even earlier) there was once a fort there, which probably should be sought on the site of the present Calvary. It has also be suggested that very early, long before the founding of the pilgrimage to the Virgin, there was a sacred place on the Kulm.

Leaving behind the daily stress, meditating on essentials and finding inner peace - pilgrims can still find a place for spiritual reflection in Frauenberg, the pilgrimage church of Admont Monastery. The Calvary to the East and the gardens in the West surround the church and invite one to find spiritual strength. The unparalleled view of the from the Gesäuse to Grimming displays the beauty of the Creation. From the earliest times the pilgrimage church of Frauenberg has been the point of departure and goal of pilgrimage and hiking trails.
