Largely visible the 850-years-old Riegersburg arises on the rock of a vulcanic mountain and offers a splendid view over gentle valleys, green woods and the wonderful vineyards of South-East Styria.
An impressive fortress, which was never occupied over centuries.
Already the ascent to the castle is an adventure. Three kilometres of defence walls with loopholes, seven gates and eleven bastions makes one sense that the castle's past was eventful.
Due to the steep footpath not only the turks couldn't reach the castle. Also many tourists have problems with the ascent. That's the reason, why a modern cable car guarantees a comfortable drive to the castle.
