The biggest moated castle in Styria was mentioned first in records 1275. The two floor building with four wings was built in the 18th century in the Renaissance style. It features stuccoed ceilings from the 17th century, a library, a "Laudon" room with battle scenes (1762) and a church (1773). The moat is still well preserved, but can not be flooded due to technical reasons.
The castle was in possession of Josef von Hammer-Purgstall. He was a famous orientalist and president of the imperial academy of sience in Vienna.
In 2008 the castle will be setting of the festival "Regionale".
